A Drift Of Swine

Length: < 1 min

By one of @val_littlewood‘s inspirations, these delightful porcine works come from artist and illustrator, Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe (1901–1979) OBE, RA, who, as well as the author of a huge body of fantastic works, was also a Ladybird Books series illustrator.

This one, nearly 100 years old now, is the essence of a pig, resting, contented, happy. The younger one on the left, scratching its back on a fence, in palpable ecstasy.

And this oil canvas from 1948 — the title of this post — captures the colours, the sights, the sounds of autumn, all in a gorgeously lit piece.

Next, two etchings, here “Pigs Forraging”

And finally, “To The Slaughter”

Joyous.

That’s it for today, we’re busy planning the books and next year’s works, so bear with us.
