Down at the psycho-gastronomy café

Length: 2 mins

You’ll be delighted to hear that I’ve decided to setup a (new) site for my writing; or at least for those pieces that don’t readily sit under the STP banner. It’s also an attempt to kick-start ‘getting my words onto paper’* again. The past year — especially the last few winter-blighted months — has, for me, been drained of a lot of the colour and enthusiasm that I was hoping to bring to new stories and shorts and bits and pieces (some of them that Val and had been planning for some little time now.)

*[this process has sometimes been likened to the alimentary gymnastics that a cat goes through while trying to sick up a fur-ball. I’ll leave you to judge whether what results in the café resembles this output in anyway…]

So, starting with the 100 Day Project, commencing on 22nd February, where I’ve committed to writing at least a paragraph or so, each and every day — alongside Val who’ll be undertaking her own pieces — I’m encouraging you to come and consume my new morsels at The Psycho-Gastronomy Café and thus, hopefully to act as a much needed kick up the arse for me…

A café because a restaurant is maybe too restrictive in outlook, too set in their ways, too anchored in their history as a purveyor of ‘fine’ food or structured eating, too classifying in their class stratifications, too constrained in what they can or will change, whilst a café, like a workers’ canteen, welcomes one and all and is all the better for that, don’t you think? Plus — of course — that real revolutions have never really been plotted — let alone started — in some poxy, up-market, bougie restaurant, have they. Have they? I can’t think of any. A café, on the other hand now…

It’ll also be known as the Anarcho-Syndicalist Café. Of course it will.

In a vaguely similar vein, I came across one of those early 2000s Japanese groups, this one called “Psycho Food Eaters”. Musically not totally my bag…

…but I did rather like the graphics they came up with:

A bright, technicolour burger with single eyeballs in the middle, tentacles and fangs along with a model of Frankenstein’s monster and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
