Time Marches on.

Length: < 1 min

The next instalment of the BAO calendar for 2024 sits at the bottom of this post. Slightly early but only a few days after all and we’re into March…

I’m minded to get a dragon tattoo. Or at least one depicting the modern equivalent of a dragon; for as everyone knows, dragons are simply dinosaurs with a taste for gold and dark places and some of them then evolved to become chickens. Something like this Zhenyang “Three Yellows” chicken which is used by some of the best yakitori joints in HK and elsewhere and, also, reminds me of a Harry Harrison SF story starring The Stainless Steel Rat and a bunch of feral, attack chickens who are armed with steel spikes on the end of their feet and wings. I can’t for the life of me recall which book though, so I may have made this up completely. I’m pretty sure this is not the case and this story really does exist — exactly as I describe — and that I read it back in my teens but…

I see also from Jame’s Wiki page that

The Chinese activist Liu Di, writing under the screen name “Stainless Steel Rat” (不锈钢老鼠), became a high-profile symbol for democracy and free speech in China since her detention in November 2002. Her screen name is often translated as Stainless Steel Mouse.
